BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's basketball hits the road on Saturday to face off with Arkansas State at 2:30 p.m. CT.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be only the second meeting all-time between the two programs. The Blazers won the only matchup 78-59 in Iowa City, Iowa during the 1985-86 season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers fell to Southern Miss last Friday, 85-82, in UAB's sixth one-possession game. Alejandro Vasquez led the Blazers with a career high 26 points while Christian Coleman added a career best 14 points.
PROTECTING THE RIM
The Blazers have blocked 39 shots over their first eight games of the season, led by Yaxel Lendeborg with 16 rejections. UAB blocked at least five shots in four straight games from Nov. 12-25, its longest such streak since the 2015-16 season. Eight different players have blocked at least one shot this season.
VETERAN PRESENCE
Javian Davis enters his final year of eligibility in 2023-24 and is primed to play a big role on this year's UAB team. Davis averaged 6.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last season while splitting time with Trey Jemison. Davis opened the 2023-24 season with a career performance against Bradley, scoring 20 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and securing four steals while shooting 8-for-9 from the field. Against Middle Tennessee, Davis scored a career high 21 points to lead the Blazers to the win.
BONNIE TO A BLAZER
Alejandro Vasquez began his career at St. Bonaventure, helping the Bonnies reach the NCAA Tournament during his freshman season while averaging 6.3 points per game. Vasquez played two seasons with the Bonnies before finding himself at Salt Lake Community College in Utah. He averaged 18.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game last year, earning first team NJCAA All-American honors. Vasquez has been a standout early in the season for UAB, averaging 12.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, including a 25-point performance against Alcorn State and a 26-point output against Southern Miss.
