UAB Baseball Tallies Nine Runs in Win Over Samford

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (5-11) picked up its fifth win of the season after defeating Samford (6-10) 9-5 on Tues., March 14 at Young Memorial Field.
In the second inning, Samford quickly jumped ahead by two runs but did not score again until the seventh and ninth innings. The Blazers were scoreless until the bottom fourth when UAB posted four runs on six hits while going through the batting order once on no outs. The Blazers extended their lead in the fifth and eighth innings to secure a four-run win over in-state foes Samford.
UAB collected the same number of walks as they did runs (9), but Samford out hit the Blazers 12 to nine. UAB loaded the bases six different times – four of those coming in the fourth inning during the Blazers six run rally.
Offensively, all but three batters collected at least one of UAB's walks while five collected RBIs – Henry Hunter (3), Christian Hall (2), Logan Braunschweig (2), Darryl Buggs (1) and David Harris (1). Hall and Braunschweig recorded multi-hit games with two hits each. John Marc Mullins, Tyler Waugh, Gavin Lewis Jr., Harris and Hunter all collected one of the Blazers' nine hits.
Six Blazers spent time on the mound including Tyler Haines, Thomas Ballard, Colin Daniel, Christian Clack, John Luke Marlin and Braxton Shelton. Daniel (1-1) received the win for UAB after he allowed no runs on two hits during his one inning on the mound. Haines, who started for the Blazers, threw one and two thirds of an inning and allowed two unearned runs on three hits with a strikeout. Ballard allowed no runs on one hit with two strikeouts. Clack and Marlin both threw for two complete innings. Clack threw a shutout while collecting five strikeouts – a season high for the left-hander – while Marlin allowed one run on three hits. Shelton ended on the mound for UAB and allowed two runs on three hits.
