CHARLOTTE – UAB men's basketball (23-8, 14-6 C-USA) outlasted Charlotte (18-13, 9-11 C-USA) in the final regular season contest, 93-91, in double overtime. Jordan Walker finished with 41 points, four rebounds and six assists for his third 40-point effort as a Blazer. Neither team led by more than six points and the lead changed hands 24 times during the contest.
The Blazers started slowly on the offensive end, shooting only 36.4 percent (12-33) from the field in the first half. Walker got his scoring started early with 11 points over the first seven minutes of the game, but the 49ers held him off the board for the rest of the half.
Charlotte took a late lead in the first half, but the Blazers were able to close the margin late to tie it up at 32 after 20 minutes.
Similarly to the first half, the second half was tightly contested. However, each team picked up the pace on the offensive end. After he was held scoreless in the first half, Trey Jemison added 12 points during the second half for the Blazers.
Jelly Walker also picked up the pace on the scoring end in the second half with 20 points to reach 30 for the sixth time this season and ninth time as a Blazer.
UAB led by six points with just under three minutes to go in the contest after an Eric Gaines layup, but the 49ers were able to erase it, tying the game on a Brice Williams jumper with one minute to go. The teams traded buckets in the final minute, but Walker's three at the buzzer did not go down, sending the game to overtime.
Walker and Tavin Lovan combined for 16 of the Blazers' 18 points during the two overtime periods. Jelly had 10 points on 3-for-7 shooting and a 3-for-3 effort from the free throw line. Lovan scored six key points while going 3-of-3 from the field, including the game-winning putback with 23 seconds remaining.
