UAB MBB Opens Conference USA Tournament on Thursday

FRISCO, Texas - No. 3 seed UAB men's basketball (23-8, 14-6 C-USA) opens play in Frisco at The Star on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. CT. The Blazers will take on either No. 6 Rice or No. 11 UTSA in the quarterfinals.

SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series against both UTSA (12-5 all-time) and Rice (20-3 all-time). The Blazers swept the regular season matchups against both teams, going 4-0 against the Owls and the Roadrunners.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers beat Charlotte, 93-91, on the road in double overtime as Jordan Walker scored 41 points with four rebounds and six assists. Walker finished just one point shy of his UAB record of 42. Tavin Lovan scored the game-winning bucket on the Blazers' final possession to secure the victory.

The Blazers come to Frisco as the defending Conference USA Tournament champions. UAB has captured two tournament titles since joining the league, the first coming in 2015 and the second in 2022.

He dropped 38 points in the season opener against Alabama State, the most scored by a UAB player in a season opener ever. Walker then captured Sunshine Slam MVP honors after scoring 31 points to go along with 6 rebounds, five assists and five steals against Georgia. He became the first UAB player to score 30+ points eight times as a Blazer, passing Andy Kennedy. Walker has scored 30 or more points in six games this season, including a 41-point effort against Charlotte, one point shy of his career high.

The Blazers are one of the best teams in the country at getting to the charity stripe. UAB is 15th in the nation in free throws made per game at 16.8 while ranking No. 14 nationally in free throw attempts per game with 23.0. At the line, the Blazers are knocking down their attempts at a 72.8 percent clip, ranking 127th in the country.

UAB currently ranks near the top of the NCAA leaderboards in rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game. The Blazers currently sit at No. 2 in the NCAA in rebounds per game at 41.2 and they are No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game at 13.8. The Blazers lead Conference USA in both categories.
