TUSCALOOSA – UAB Track & Field concluded the Alabama Crimson Tide Invitational Saturday evening in Tuscaloosa. The Blazers finished the weekend with over ten top-eight finishes in the evening, including two top-five finishes from Shauntia Landrum in jumps and a top-five finish for Lauren Charlton.
"We had a lot of ups and downs at Alabama. Shauntia had a good Long Jump/Triple Jump day and the 4x100 ran a seasonal best," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "Sangie has been very consistent running the 1500m and did so again today. Gina had a good 400m, training for the 800m. Lauren Charlton had a good 5000m effort coming off a big 10K last week. We were off in some other events we thought we could be better in. We'll get back to training and work on fixing those things as we get ready for conference."
The Blazers began the day with an eighth-place finish in the 1500m from Sangie Lincoln-Velez, who finished with a time of 4:39.78 and led the pack for the Green and Gold. Following the 1500m, Lauren Charlton represented UAB in the 5000m, finishing eighth overall in the event.
Kyra Kayes and Britney Johnson finished top five in the 3000m Steeplechase, with Hayes shaving off a significant bit of time and setting a PR of 11:18.10. Hayes, a freshman, finished third overall in the event.
In the 100m Hurdles, Kat Duren and Makiyah Sills finished fifth and sixth. Duren and Sills then ran on UAB's 4x100m relay team in addition to Taylor Washington and Alayah Dozier. The Blazers placed fourth overall and set a new season best time of 46.61, taking off .51 seconds from the season best set at the UAB invite earlier this month.
In jumps, Shauntia Landrum finished fifth in the long and triple jump, beating out her previous season best in long jump with a 5.79m.
