Track & Field Prepares for Regular Season Finale at Mississippi State

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field enters its final week of competition as they travel to Starkville, Miss. for the Maroon and White Invite at the Mike Sanders Track Complex. Competition begins Friday, April 28, and concludes Saturday, April 29.
The Blazers return from competing at the University of Alabama's Crimson Tide Invite in Tuscaloosa. The Green and Gold had notable performances and areas of growth to build on at Sam Bailey Track & Field Stadium.
The Green and Gold had two top-five finishes from Shauntia Landrum in long and triple jump and a top-five finish from Lauren Charlton in the 1500m. The Blazers also had impressive showings in hurdles with Kat Duren and Makiyah Sills finishing fifth and sixth. They also set a season-best time of 46.61 in the 4x100m Relay.
UAB is one of 12 teams competing in the Maroon and White Invite. Blazers competing in sprints at the Maroon and White Invite include Duren, Eriyanna Reed, and Jabriana Jemison.
In distance, five Blazers will appear in the 1500m, including Kyra Hayes and Gracie Sears. Britney Johnson will also run in the 1500m along with the 800m for the Green and Gold.
In field events, UAB has Laney Kronz and Megan Hamilton Strong participating in high jump, while Trinity Fellows is the sole Blazer competing in pole vault. Five ladies in Green and Gold are participating in long jump, including Shauntia Landrum. Landrum will also make an appearance in triple jump for the Blazers.
In throws, Zoe Winkenwerder and Tia Espinoza will compete in hammer throw and discus. Kronz will appear in javelin with Hamilton Strong and Mya McDanal, who threw a personal best of 42.29 at the UAB Spring Invitational.
