Volleyball Competes at Tulsa and Wichita State Over the Weekend

BIRMINGHAM – UAB won their first road conference set of the year on Sunday in Wichita Kansas. The Blazers lost both road matches over the weekend 0-3 and 1-3.
Jorda Crook was the one of only two players with double digit kills in Friday's loss at Tulsa. The Golden Hurricanes were aggressive from the jump, hopping out to a 7-3 lead. Madison Page added two blocks and two kills in the first set, keeping the Blazers to within striking distance. Page finished with four kills and four total blocks.
This time UAB hopped out to a 4-1 lead before a Tulsa 7-1 run to put the Golden Hurricanes up three. UAB could not pick up any momentum in set two or three allowing Tulsa to win the match 3-0.
Mia Reese and Jorda Crook were dominate in the Sunday match against Wichita State. Reese hit .414 with 15 kills, while Crook had 20 kills and 23 total points. Abby Jones also had 13 kills in a very tight contest.
The first set and second sets went into extra points with either team having a chance to win. UAB took a 13-9 lead after a Madison Page kill and sustained that lead until 16-16. The Blazers took three one-point leads in extra points but could not finish the Shockers off. Wichita State won 30-28.
UAB again, led most of the second set leading by as many as three at 15-12. A kill by Jorda Crook and then an attack error by Wichita State secured the second set to UAB.
Seven of Morgan Scouts 22 kills came in the third set leading the Shockers to a 25-19 win. With a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set UAB needed a win. Wichita State took an 8-3 lead and never looked back. The Shockers won the match 3-1.
UAB will be back at home for the last three home games of the season. Friday the Blazers will face North Texas at 7 pm, while Sunday the Blazers will host East Carolina for Seniors Night at 12 pm.
