SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series 1-0 with the sole meeting coming during Andy Kennedy's second game at UAB as the head coach. The Blazers won that game 84-59. Tony Toney is the only current Blazer that was on the roster for that game, but he did not log any minutes.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers picked up their first win of the season on Thursday against Southern Miss by a score of 98-84. UAB jumped out to a 24-0 lead to start the game and led by as many as 30 in the first half. Christian Coleman had a career night with 21 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals while Yaxel Lendeborg added 21 points and Tyren Moore scored 18.
YAX IS BACK
Yaxel Lendeborg had a dominant debut season at UAB. The forward led the Blazers with 13.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.1 blocks per game, earning American Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors. Lendeborg set UAB and American Conference records with 370 rebounds in a single season and also recorded a program record 19 double-doubles. He finished the season with five games of 20+ points and 15+ rebounds, second nationally only to National Player of the Year Zach Edey. His 72 blocks rank as the seventh most in a single season in UAB history. Lendeborg is one of only seven players in the country returning after averaging a double-double during the 2023-24 season.
PORTAL PICKUPS
The Blazers brought in three players from the transfer portal in the offseason. Bradley Ezewiro joins the roster after spending last season at Saint Louis where he averaged 12.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest. Ezewiro began his career at LSU where he was a teammate of former Blazer Eric Gaines and transferred to Georgetown the following year. Greg Gordon transferred to UAB after spending one year at Iona. The 6'5" guard averaged 16.0 points and 7.3 rebounds over 24 games in his first season of Division I basketball as a JUCO transfer. Tyren Moore comes to UAB after two years at Georgia Southern. In his final season with the Eagles, Moore led the team with 17.0 points and 3.1 assists per game.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Throughout its history, the UAB men's basketball program has seen incredible success in Birmingham, holding a 447-112 record in Bartow Arena since the Blazers' on-campus home opened back in 1988. That success has continued with Andy Kennedy returning to his alma mater, as the fifth year UAB head coach holds a 61-12 record at home (Bartow and Legacy Arena) since taking over the program.
