Rizzo’s Brace Leads UAB Men’s Soccer Past Louisville
9/24/2024 10:02:00 PM | Men's Soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lucas Rizzo scored both of UAB men's soccer's (4-1-3) two goals in the Blazers 2-1 victory over Louisville (4-3-1) on Tuesday night. UAB extended its unbeaten streak to seven matches, the longest such streak since 2011.
"Great result for us tonight and a resilient performance." Head Coach David Lilly said, "We had to dig deep again to get over the finish line. We're going to enjoy this tonight, but we have a very quick turnaround and a tough conference road trip in a few days we need to focus on."
While the Cardinals controlled the possession for the majority of the first half, Jonathan Munteanu and the Blazer defense was able to keep the match scoreless. Munteanu finished the night with four saves.
Rizzo got the scoring started in the 52nd minute for the Blazers. Gustavo Barbosa played the ball up the left wing to Rizzo and he was able to cut in and slot it home to give UAB the lead at 1-0.
Louisville responded about 10 minutes later as Leon Kondic equalized the match with his second goal of the season. The Cardinals' relief was short-lived, however, as Ole Jessen played the ball wide to Mathias Love Groth, who found Rizzo for his second goal of the night.
The Blazers did not relinquish the 2-1 lead for the remainder of the night as Munteanu held the UL attack in check.
