UAB Hosts South Florida for Bartow Classic

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball is set to host South Florida on Sunday for the 16th annual Bartow Classic. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT.
For every single game ticket sold, $2 will go to the Gene Bartow Fund for Cancer Research at the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB. The first 1,000 fans at Sunday's game will receive rally towels with the Gene Bartow logo.

Tomorrow's game will air on ESPN2 with Mike Corey and Perry Clark on the call.

SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series 42-21 over the Bulls, including a 21-7 advantage in Birmingham. The Blazers won the season's first meeting in Tampa by a score of 92-83. Andy Kennedy holds a 5-0 record against USF as a head coach.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers fell on the road at East Carolina by a score of 82-75 despite leading at the half. Lendeborg led UAB with 22 points and 11 rebounds, but the Pirates' duo of CJ Walker and RJ Felton was too much for the Blazers.
YAX SEASON
Yaxel Lendeborg is posting even more impressive numbers during his second year at UAB. He is averaging 17.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists so far this season for the Blazers, leading the team in each category. He is the third Blazer (Carlos Williams, Andy Kennedy) to open a season with three straight games with at least 20 points. Lendeborg earned AAC Player of the Week honors after averaging 23.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists in a pair of wins over Tulane and Florida Atlantic. He has also shown his ability to find his teammates, recording five or more assists in 13 games this season, including a streak of seven-straight games with at least five assists. Lendeborg has tied the UAB program record of 35 double-doubles, set by Carlos Williams.
JUCO DAWGS
UAB has embraced the JUCO ranks during Andy Kennedy's time in Birmingham and the 2024-25 roster features seven players that have played at a Junior College including Christian Coleman (South Plains), Greg Gordon (Dyersburg State), Marquis Hargrove (Arizona Western), Ja'Borri McGhee (Garden City/South Plains), Yaxel Lendeborg (Arizona Western), and Alejandro Vasquez (Salt Lake). JUCO players accounted for 41.7% of the Blazers' scoring last season and 48.4% of their rebounding. So far this season, JUCO players have accounted for 69.6% of the Blazers' scoring and 62.6% of their rebounding.
TONY TONEY TIME
Senior guard Tony Toney has been a spark for the Blazers during his fifth year in Birmingham. The Huntsville native is averaging 8.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 49.3% from the field, 43.4% from three and 90.9% from the free throw line. Toney had a huge game in the Blazers' win at South Florida, scoring 18 points while shooting 4-for-6 from three. He then added 15 points and six rebounds in a win over Charlotte.
