Women’s Basketball Falls at North Texas

DENTON, Texas – UAB women's basketball (15-14, 6-11 AAC) fell on the road at North Texas (22-7, 14-3 AAC) by a score of 77-56.
Sara Bershers led the Blazers with 14 points while Jade Weathersby recorded 13 points and nine rebounds.
UAB was the first on the board, but the Mean Green answered back. The frame went back and forth with North Texas still in front. The score was 14-9 at the 1:33 mark with Bershers scoring all of the Blazers nine points. Weathersby was able to make a three, followed by Tracey Bershers who recorded a layup to tie the game 14-14 to end the first.
The Green and Gold started the second quarter on a 7-0 run to grab the lead at 21-14. UNT was able to answer back and eventually tied the game 25-25 with 2:42 remaining. Eleecia Carter made a three followed by the Mean Green making a layup. The Blazers had a one-point lead at 28-27 going into halftime.
The first three minutes of the third saw five lead changes and North Texas took the lead at 37-35. UNT then began a 17-2 run and led 49-37 with 1:16 on the clock. The third quarter ended with the Mean Green leading 52-41.
UAB was able to get within nine points at 54-45, but North Texas was able to extend its lead on 55 percent shooting in the fourth.
UP NEXT
The Blazers close out the regular season at home when they host Tulane on Tuesday, March 4. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
