Women’s Basketball Season Ends in WNIT First Round

CHICAGO, Ill. – UAB women's basketball (16-16) fought until the very end, but UIC (15-17) used a big fourth quarter to earn a 63-48 win on Friday in the first round of the WNIT.
Eleecia Carter led the Blazers with 12 points, while Sara Bershers recorded 11 points. Molly Moffitt registered 10 points and led the team with nine rebounds.
UAB had an early lead until the Flames tied the game at 11-11 which was one of four tied scores in the first quarter. The Green and Gold led 13-11 with 3:52 left, but UIC went on a 9-0 run to close out the frame leading 20-13.
The Flames scored the first six points in the second to be in front 26-13. The Blazers then went on a 16-0 run to earn back the lead at 29-26 at the 3:05 mark. Carter scored nine of her 12 points in the second quarter. The Green and Gold closed out the quarter with a one-point lead at 31-30.
The first few minutes of the third went back and forth but UAB went on a 7-0 run to lead 40-36. The Flames were able to get close to the Blazers, but UAB held on and went into the final 10 minutes up by two at 42-40.
UIC opened the fourth quarter on a 15-0 on run to have a 13-point lead (55-42) with 5:10 remaining. The Blazers were able to get within nine points on two occasions, but the Flames were able to extend their lead and earn the 15-point win.
