BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team (16-21, 6-9) is headed to Auburn, Alabama to play their third SEC opponent of the year in Auburn (24-15, 2-13). The game is scheduled for a double header starting at 3:30 p.m.
UAB had won two straight series against Tulsa and then Memphis before playing Wichita State last weekend. The Blazers are now at 6-9 in conference play and eighth place in the standings. Auburn was 20-1 before starting SEC play and has now lost 12 straight in conference play. The Tigers were 2-12 in their last 14 games with wins over Troy and South Alabama before the series win against Kentucky. Auburn is 2-13 in conference play, currently in last place in the standings.
UAB has just four home games left this season including one midweek against Troy and one conference series against East Carolina. UAB is on the road for 13 out of their last 17 games.
Auburn leads the series 16-2 winning the last 12 games dating back to 2003 when UAB last won. The Blazers shut out the Blazers that year winning 4-0. The series has not been played at Mary Bowers Field since 2016. The Blazers have scored only five runs over the last five games. The last matchup was a 9-0 win for Auburn allowing 0 hits.
