Women’s Soccer Earns 5-0 Over ULM

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer (1-2-1) put on a dominant display Sunday night, defeating ULM (2-2) 5-0 at PNC Field.
The Blazers controlled the pace from the opening whistle, finishing the match with a 15-6 advantage in shots, including nine on target compared to just three on goal for the Warhawks.
Avery Berryman opened the scoring for the Green and Gold in the 25th minute, netting her first goal of the season off a well-placed assist from Abby Graeser. Four minutes later Berryman found the back of the net again with an assist from Jette Zimmer. It marked Berryman's third career goal and second on the season. UAB had a 2-0 lead going into halftime and outshot ULM 11-2 in the first half.
In the second half, Zimmer recorded her first goal of the year in the 78th minute when Graeser placed her second assist on the night. Graeser found Zimmer again four minutes later for Zimmer's second goal of the evening in the 82nd minute to put the Blazers up 4-0. Zimmer has now tallied 11 career goals, with six of those goals being scored while at UAB.
As the game was ending ULM was called for a handball in the box allowing the Blazers to take a penalty kick. Lailah Stewart's number was called, and she found herself scoring her first goal in the Green and Gold to put UAB up 5-0. It marked Stewart's ninth career goal.
For the match, Graeser had three assists and Berryman registered two goals as well as Zimmer.
Up next, the Blazers are back at home to host Southern Miss on Sunday, August 31. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
