UAB Women’s Soccer Hosts Southern Miss

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer hosts Southern Miss on Sunday, August 31. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
It's retro night at PNC Field and fans will have a chance to win a vintage UAB women's soccer jersey. Fans can enter a chance to win at the marketing table by the gate.
SERIES HISTORY
The Blazers lead the all-time series 16-7-3, with the last match being played in Hattiesburg, Mississippi when UAB beat the Golden Eagles 1-0 in 2024.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
UAB defeated ULM 5-0 last Sunday for its first win of the season. Avery Berryman scored two goals four minutes apart with an assist from Abby Graeser on one goal and the other assist from Jette Zimmer. Zimmer also scored two goals four minutes apart with assist by Graeser on both goals. Lailah Stewart scored the fifth goal off a penalty kick when the Warhawks were called for a handball in the box. UAB outshot ULM 15-6 including nine on target compared to just three on goal for the Warhawks.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Southern Miss had its match postponed on Thursday against Mississippi Valley State due to weather. USM fell 1-0 against Ole Miss on August 24. The Golden Eagles have yet to score a goal this season.
GOAL SCORERS
Freshman Rebecca Sierra scored her first collegiate goal against UCF on August 14, and it was assisted by Lauren Lucero. Sophomore Mia Leath scored against ETSU on August 17, making it her second career goal. Junior Ava Mills found the back of the net at Ole Miss on Thursday which was her first career goal. Mills' goal was assisted by Maia Sirota.
NEW FACES
UAB brought in 11 new players for the 2025 season from the high school level and via the transfer portal.
RETURNING PRODUCTION
The Blazers top three goal scores from last season have all returned. Abbey Burns who led the team with seven goals, Jette Zimmer scored four and Sydney Bolinger who had two. Other players that are back on this year's squad that scored one goal are Maia Sirota, Mia Leath, Lola Sommer and Abby Graeser. In total, UAB has 16 letterwinners returning for the season.
