Jalen Kitna threw for 364 yards and two touchdowns to mark his third straight game throwing for over 300 yards, but Tennessee jumped on UAB early and never looked back.

The Blazers (2-2) compiled 394 yards of total offense, but allowed 510 to the Vols (3-1) with 275 coming through the air and 235 on the ground. Β

UAB fell behind 21-0 after the first quarter and trailed 42-7 at halftime. UAB's lone first half touchdown was a 30-yard reception by Brandon Hawkins Jr. who made a tremendous run after the catch and spun into the end zone. Hawkins finished with seven catches for 69 yards.

UAB tacked on a field goal and two touchdowns in the in the second half, including a 61-yard touchdown pass from Kitna to Kaleb Brown. Running back Isaiah Jacobs added a rushing touchdown with :48 left in the game.

Defensively, interior lineman Eamon Smalls led UAB with seven tackles, while Pierre Royster added six stops and had UAB's first interception of the season.

The Blazers are off next week and then return to Protective Stadium on Oct. 4 to host reigning American Conference champion Army.
