BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball (10-14, 3-9 American) defeated Memphis (8-15, 2-8 American) 58-56 on Tuesday night at Bartow Arena.

Three Blazers scored in double figures with Cali Smallwood leading UAB with 22 points. Molly Moffitt registered 12 points while Monae' Duffy tallied 10 points. Duffy led UAB with 13 rebounds on top of her 10 points for a double-double.

The Tigers were led by Tamya Smith who had 15 points. Amauri Williams came away with 11 points and Chaé Harris followed with 10 points.

Game Notes

Smallwood led the Green and Gold for the eighth time this season with her 22 points.
Smallwood scored 20-plus points for the fifth time this season and recorded a season-high three assists.
Duffy totaled 10 points and 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
Duffy has recorded double-digit rebounds eight times and double-digit points 13 times this season.
Smallwood was 8-for-16 from the field and 6-for-14 from the three.
Moffitt went 4-for-9 from the paint and 4-for-6 from beyond the perimeter.
Journey Armstead led UAB again with five assists.
The Blazers scored 16 points in the paint and 16 points on second chances.
During the game, there were seven lead changes and three tied scores.
UAB led for 29:42 of the game while the Tigers led for 7:51 during the game.
The Blazers outrebound Memphis 42-35.
UAB finished with 15 assists on 21 made field goals.
The Green and Gold shot 38 percent from the field, 38 percent from the three and 71 percent at the line.
Memphis shot 35 percent from the field, 28 percent from the perimeter and 63 percent from the free throw line.

How It Happened

The Tigers jumped out to an early eight-point lead forcing UAB to call a timeout [10-2].
UAB answered with a 9-0 run sparked by offensive rebounds and a Moffitt three to take the lead [11-10].
Memphis was able to grab back the lead off a fast break with three minutes remaining [12-11].
Moffitt made her second three of the game to put the Blazers in front to close the frame [14-12].
The Tigers tied the game to open the second quarter, but Duffy gave UAB back the lead off an and one and making her free throw [17-14].
Smallwood hit consecutive threes to continue the Blazers hold on the lead [25-20].
Duffy scored off a second chance look at the buzzer to head into halftime [33-25].
Moffitt opened the half with a three to push the lead to 11 [36-25].
Memphis answered with points and holding off the Green and Gold defensively [39-36].
The Blazers maintained composure holding onto the advantage to head into the final frame [41-38].
The Tigers tied the game early behind a layup and a three [43-43].
Smallwood buried three consecutive triples to swing momentum back to UAB [52-47].
After Memphis cut it to one in the final minute, Jordan Rosier knocked down a key three to put the Blazers up by four [55-51].
UAB held on defensively and made free throws to secure the win [58-56].
