Recapping the Yellow Jacket Invite

ATLANTA – UAB Track & Field completed its Outdoor season opener this weekend as the Blazers travelled to Georgia Tech for the Yellow Jacket Invite.
Jasmine Dereje was the highlight of the weekend as the junior won the 400m Hurdles on Saturday. Dereje finished first of 17 runners in the event and finished in 59.50 seconds.
Kat Duren had a good opening meet in the 100m Hurdles. Duren placed seventh out of 29 runners and finished with a time of 14.09 seconds.
Victoria Freeland had a strong day in her return to her home state. The sophomore pole vaulter finished tied for second in the event and finished at a mark of 3.75m, setting her overall personal best. Fiona Eastman finished tied for fifth in the event. Eastman vaulted to a mark of 3.60m.
Mikayla Williams and Madison Cameron competed in the Triple Jump for the Green and Gold, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Williams' best jump was her first, coming in at 11.77m, while Cameron's best was her second, setting a mark of 11.56m.
Lia Castillo finished 19th of 70 runners in the 1500m race. Castillo finished in 4:35.61.
Kenlie Nelson finished seventh of 31 runners in the 5000m race. Nelson finished the race in 17:19.09.
UAB's 4x400 team consisting of Jasmine Dereje, Leticia Quingostas, Gabby Washington, and Kelly Hughes placed second in the event on Saturday. The quartet finished in 3:50.22.
UAB will return to action next weekend for its lone home meet of the Outdoor season. Friday's action will begin at 1 p.m. while Saturday will start at 9 a.m. Senior Day will take place on Saturday.
