BIRMINGHAM – UAB Baseball returns home to open a 5-game homestand on Tuesday evening as the Blazers take on Jacksonville State in a midweek matchup.

SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS
Conference USA's first place Gamecocks are led by Steve Beiser, who is in his third season as the head coach for Jax State. The Gamecocks are winners of 11 of their last 12 and have swept both series in conference play thus far. Jax State is led by its pitching staff which ranks first in the league in strikeouts (264), fewest hits (161), runs allowed (88), ERA (3.29), shutouts (3), opponent batting average (.206). The Red and White lead CUSA in doubles (57), second in stolen bases (58), and third in runs scored (196). Pete Jaxon is second in CUSA with a .403 batting average. Jacksonville State is 8-1 away from home this season.
THINGS TO KNOW
- The two teams have split each of the last eight meetings. UAB is 2-1 in Birmingham while Jax State leads 3-2 in Jacksonville.
- UAB has defended its home turf this season by going 11-4 and scoring 9.14 runs per game at Young Memorial Field.
- The Blazers rank ninth nationally with 24 double plays turned which is also tied for first in the American Conference.
- The Green and Gold are tied for 17th in D1 Baseball with 42 home runs. John Paul Head is the team's home run leader with 13. That total ranks tied for sixth nationally. Additionally, 38 of UAB's 42 home runs have come at home.
- All 14 of UAB's wins this season have come when scoring at least eight runs.
- Baylor Roberts leads the team with a 14-game on-base streak. Wesley Helms is right behind him at 11 games.
- Christian Helmers is slated to make his third start of the season. In his other home start, Helmers tossed a career-high 4.1 innings, allowed one earned run, and struck out three.
