BIRMINGHAM – UAB Baseball (17-10, 3-2) clinched the series on Saturday against Tulane (14-14, 2-3) as the Blazers took the middle game of the series by a score of 7-4. The Green and Gold's seven runs are the fewest in a win this season.
The Blazers once again put up a first inning run and did so for the 15th time this season. UAB started its rally with two outs in the inning. With two on, Brady Waugh singled through the right side to score Landon Beaver and put the Blazers up, 1-0.
Tulane would take its first lead of the weekend in the top of the second inning. The Green Wave got its first two runners on via free passes. After a sac bunt, Brett Rowell would single to score Nate Johnson to tie the game. James Agabedis would execute a safety squeeze which would bring in Trent Liolios to give the Green Wave a 2-1 lead.
That lead would not last long as the Blazer bats scored two of their own in the bottom half of the inning as UAB would again mount a 2-out rally. Alex Dupuy stood in with two on and cashed them both in on a single to left to allow the Blazers to regain the lead, 3-2.
The score would hold until the top half of the sixth. In a pinch-hit appearance, Mattias Haas would bring home Tye Wood on a sac fly to re-tie the game.
UAB would answer back with a crooked number in the bottom half of the inning. Three of the first four Blazers would reach courtesy of a walk. Andrew Hunt would bring one home on a sac fly to give the Green and Gold a 4-3 lead. The next two hitters, Wesley Helms and Max Price, would bring home runs on RBI singles. UAB would score the final run of the frames on a Tulane miscue to give the Blazers a 7-3 lead heading into the seventh inning.
The Green Wave would capitalize on a leadoff double for a single tally in the inning. With two outs, Jason Wachs singled on the first pitch he saw through the right side to cut the UAB lead to 7-4.
UAB's Riley Miller's only blemish out of the bullpen was the single run in the seventh inning but slammed the door on any Tulane rally in the final three frames. Miller tossed the final three innings, gave up two hits and one run and picked up his second save of the season to cap off the 7-4 win for UAB.
