UAB Walks Off Tulane, Completes Sweep of Green Wave

BIRMINGHAM – For the second time this season, Max Price played hero for the Blazers as UAB (18-10, 4-2) walked off Tulane (14-15, 2-4) to complete the sweep against the Green Wave. The 5-4 victory for the Green and Gold secured the first conference series sweep since 2016.

Kevin Hall Jr. opened Sunday's scoring with a 2-run single, scoring Andrew Hunt and Wesley Helms to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead. UAB has scored first in eight of its last nine games.

Tulane answered back with two of its own in the top of the fourth inning. The Green Wave opened the inning with back-to-back doubles, with the latter coming from Brett Rowell which cut the UAB lead to 2-1. Two batters later, Johnny Elliott brought Rowell home on a sac fly which would tie the game at two.

The Green Wave would take the lead in the top of the sixth inning by pushing across a single tally. Tye Wood hit the first home run of the entire series for either team over the left field wall, giving Tulane a 3-2 lead.

That lead would hold until the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out, Alex Dupuy stepped in and hit the Blazers' first home run of the weekend for his sixth home run of the season to tie the game at three.

Tulane would regain the lead in the top of the ninth on the Blazers' third error of the game. Johnny Elliott would reach on a Blazer miscue and would later come around to score on an infield single by Kaikea Harrison to give Tulane a 4-3 lead.

The Blazers would try to capture some Young Memorial Field magic in the bottom half of the inning. Wesley Helms drew a 7-pitch walk and would be pinch-run for by Alex Cheeseman. The walk would bring up Max Price who had already hit a walk-off home run against Cincinnati earlier in the season. Price blasted the second pitch he saw over the center field wall for a walk-off 2-run home run to clinch the series sweep of Tulane.

NOTES
- Price hit the Blazers' fifth true walk-off of the season (Price, Cincy; Helms, MTSU; Waugh, MTSU)
- Price also has a hit in each of his last six games. He finished the week going 5-for-7 with two home runs, five RBI, and 12 total bases in his three games played.
- UAB advances to 15-4 at home and have won 12 of its last 13 at Young Memorial Field.
- Alex Dupuy recorded his team-high 11th multi-hit game of the season.
- Wesley Helms and Kevin Hall Jr. each carry 5-game hitting streaks into next week.
- Helms leads the team with a 15-game on-base streak. Helms went 9-for-17 with seven runs scored, four RBI, and 12 total bases.
- Isaac Warrick, Christian Helmers, Hunter Hyatt, Justin Hicks, and Brendan Conner combined to allow one earned run over the final five innings. Chase Ingram struck out five in four innings of work.

UAB caps off the 5-game homestand with a game against North Alabama on Tuesday. First pitch from Young Memorial Field is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
