Steele, Helms Honored with American Conference Weekly Awards

BIRMINGHAM – UAB RHP Mason Steele and INF Wesley Helms have been tabbed as Honorable Mentions as part of the American Conference's weekly baseball awards, the league office announced on Monday. The honors are the first of the players' respective careers.
Steele got the ball on Friday night for the Blazers as the junior from Headland, AL went seven shutout innings in a series-opening win over Tulane. Steele's final line included five strikeouts, two hits allowed, and did so on a career-high 103 pitches. Additionally, Steele lowered his season ERA to 4.06.
Helms finished the Blazers' undefeated week going 9-for-17 with seven runs scored, four RBI, 12 total bases, and three multi-hit games. Helms added his fourth home run of the season on Tuesday against Jacksonville State. Helms goes into next week hitting .310, the third-best on the team, and carries an OPS of .880.

The Blazers close their 5-game homestand on Tuesday as UAB welcomes North Alabama to Young Memorial Field for a rematch with the Lions. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
