Roadrunners Shutout Blazers to Take Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Softball fell 3-0 to UTSA in game two of the series, dropping its second consecutive conference series. The Roadrunners scored all three runs in the third inning in big four-hit inning with a walk and a wild pitch.
Caitlin Russell started the game in the circle for UAB, cruising through two innings before the Roadrunners hit her well in the third inning. Back-to-back singles set up an RBI single to centerfield to score the first run of the game for UTSA. A Roadrunner double then followed a walk to score both runners in scoring position. Russell got out of the inning following the double, then was relieved by Caroline McLendon in the fourth inning. McLendon pitched four scoreless innings, allowing six base runners but keeping the Blazers out of danger.
Madeline Flammia was one of the few bright spots for UAB on offense, hitting 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Charlee Bennett reached base in both of her plate appearances with a single and her 29th walk of the season, tying her with Mandy Lowman for the eighth most walks in a UAB season.
