Blazers Run Rule UTSA With Season-High 14 Runs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Softball's offense exploded for its greatest offensive output of the season. The Blazers scored a season high 14 runs in a 14-6 run rule victory over UTSA to avoid being swept by the Roadrunners. The Blazers tallied a season-best 24 total bases with three homers, two doubles, and 13 total hits.
Carlie Wilkins had a career day with a career-high and team season-high five RBI. Wilkins started her day with a sacrifice fly, then followed it with her first career grand slam. Wilkins's slam put the Blazers up 8-1 in the second inning.
Olivia Tindell extended her hit streak to six games with a home run to left field, her second career home run. Shirah joined the home run club in the fifth inning, putting one past the right field wall. Shirah's blast was her team-best seventh of the season.
Charlee Bennett capped her two-hit day with a bases-loaded double to right field, scoring two runs and setting up Shirah's walk-off single to right, clinching the 14-6 run rule win.
Hannah Cole got her first start since opening weekend, going 4.0 innings for the Blazers, allowing three runs on six hits. Cole struck out three Roadrunners. Olivia Cummings relieved Cole in the fifth inning. Cummings allowed four hits and three earned runs.
