UAB Men’s Soccer Opens C-USA Play at No. 19 Kentucky

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Off to its best start since 2013, the UAB men's soccer team is set for its toughest challenge of the season thus far when it travels to No. 19 Kentucky Friday night to open Conference USA play. Kick between the Blazers and Wildcats is set for 6:30 PM CT.
UAB (2-0-2) is coming off of a double overtime 0-0 draw Monday night against Missouri State. The Blazers tied consecutive home games for the first time since 1980.
Freshman James Teal has been a dominant force in the net for the Blazers this season. He has tallied three shutouts in the first four games including playing every minute of every match. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native ranks fourth in the NCAA in shutouts (3), fifth in minutes played (400:000) and ninth in save percentage (0.944) and goals against average (0.225).
Offensively Massimo Ferrin is leading the charge. The sophomore midfielder leads the team in goals (2) and total points (4). He pitched in goals in each of the Blazers previous two road games in en route to an undefeated away swing.
Kentucky (3-0-1) is coming off of a 2-2 double overtime tie at No. 8 Louisville Tuesday night. Connor Probert and Mikkel Pederson pitched in the two Wildcat goals.
The Wildcats currently sit atop the C-USA rankings. They rank fifth in the league in goals (6), and sixth in assists (5) and assists per game (1.25). Defensively they are tied for second in goals allowed (3) and second in goals against average (0.67) and shutouts (2).
Enrique Facusse leads the charge in goal. The keeper ranks fourth in the country in minutes played (404:33), 18th in shutouts (2), 33rd in save percentage (.833) and 39th in total saves (15).
Andrew McKelvey and Stefan Stojkovic lead Kentucky in goals with two apiece and in points with four. Pedersen, Hummel, Alex Bumpus and Kalil ElMedkhar all have tallied one assist this season.
UAB and Kentucky are meeting for the 14th time in program history with the Wildcats holding the 7-6-0 advantage. The two teams last meeting came in front of a record crowd at BBVA Compass Field where the Blazer faithful saw UAB take home the 2-1 victory.
