UAB Football Travels to Louisiana Tech for C-USA West Showdown

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB football team travels to Louisiana Tech this Saturday for a Conference USA West Division showdown in Ruston. The game kicks off at 6 p.m. CST on Stadium/Facebook.
The winner of this game will improve to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in Conference USA, and will be in control of their own destiny in the West Division title race. UAB is looking for its first-ever win in Ruston.

STORYLINES:
- First place is on the line this weekend after both teams opened the C-USA slate with victories. UAB improved to 9-0 at home since its return with a 28-7 victory over Charlotte last week, while Louisiana Tech notched a very impressive road win, handing North Texas its first loss of the season with a 29-27 victory in Denton.
- The UAB offensive line has paced the league's top rushing offense as the Blazers enter the game leading C-USA in rushing yards per game (239.8). The line has also given up the league's least amount of sacks (three total), ranking them sixth nationally in that category.
- The offensive line will have their hands full with the nation's active leader in career sacks, Jaylon Ferguson. The senior defensive end is the reigning C-USA Defensive Player of the Week after a career-high four sacks against North Texas. He currently leads the nation in sacks per game this season (1.60).
- The Blazers are no strangers of sacking the quarterback in their own right. UAB travels to Ruston ranked fourth nationally in sacks per game at 3.75 and have tallied 11 sacks in the last two games (six vs. Tulane, five vs. Charlotte).
- Jack linebacker Jamell Garcia-Williams leads the defensive efforts with team highs in both sacks (4.0) and tackles for loss (6.5). However, it has been a total team effort as 10 different players have registered a quarterback sack and 14 players have a TFL.
- UAB's secondary continues to play at a very high level and enters Saturday's contest third nationally in passing yards allowed at just 141.0 per game. Opposing quarterbacks are just 36-of-86 for 564 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions against the Blazers. In 17 games since returning to the playing field, UAB has tallied 18 interceptions.
- Sophomore Spencer Brown is coming off the third multi-touchdown game of his career against Charlotte and is averaging 91.2 rushing yards per game this year. Louisiana Tech ranks sixth in C-USA in rushing defense (159.0/game).
- A.J. Erdely was 13-of-16 for 214 yards and two total touchdowns, while completing 81.2 percent of his passes last week. In the process, Erdely moved into fourth place on UAB's career list for touchdowns responsible for with 36. Erdely has 20 passing touchdowns and 16 rushing touchdowns in 17 career games.
