Blazers Face Sooners on Thanksgiving Day in the Junkanoo Jam

BIMINI, Bahamas – The UAB women's basketball team will face its toughest test yet on Thursday as it takes on Oklahoma in the opening round of the Resorts World Junkanoo Jam. Tipoff between the Blazers and Sooners is set for 4:15 p.m. CST at the Gateway Christian Academy.
UAB (3-0) is looking to begin the season 4-0 for just the fifth time in program history and for the first time since the 1994-95 season. The Blazers are coming off a 90-45 win at Chicago State on Tuesday in a game where four players for the Green and Gold found the double figure scoring column.
Deanna Kuzmanic leads UAB in scoring, averaging 15.7 per game. The senior is shooting 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the field, the 20th best mark in the NCAA and the third highest in Conference USA. Kuzmanic has netted 1,163 career points and is just four points shy of the 21st most in program history.
Miyah Barnes ranks first on the team in assists, dishing out 23 on the season, while giving up just six turnovers. Barnes ranks sixth nationally with a C-USA leading 7.7 assists per game, while the Memphis, Tenn., native ranks second in the league with a 3.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Oklahoma (2-1) is coming off its first loss of the season with an 87-70 loss at No. 21 USF on Sunday, Nov. 18. The Sooners however opened the season with a 90-83 win over the reigning C-USA Tournament Champions WKU on Nov. 9.
Oklahoma's offense ranks 29th nationally, averaging 84.3 points per game. Four Sooners are averaging double figure points as Shanina Pellington and Taylor Robertson lead the squad with 21.3 and 20.7 points per game, respectively.
Thursday marks just the second meeting all-time between UAB and Oklahoma. The Blazers took the lone meeting 62-61 on Nov. 27, 1998.
The winner of Thursday's game will face either Tennessee or Clemson on Saturday in the Championship Game of the Junkanoo Jam at 4:15 p.m. CST. The loser will face the loser of the Tigers and Lady Vols matchup on Friday at 6:45 p.m. CST.
