UAB Heads to Cross Town Rival Samford

BIRMINGHAM – The (RV) UAB women's basketball team is set to plays its second true road game of the year on Wednesday night when it travels to cross town rival Samford. Tip between the Blazers and Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m. from the Pete Hanna Center.
UAB (6-1) is coming off an 80-53 win over Alcorn State last Friday night. Four Blazers found the double figure scoring column as Rachael Childress led the team with 17 points on five made 3-pointers.
Childress has five games with 4+ 3-pointers and ranks eighth in the NCAA in 3-point field goals per game, averaging 3.6 a contest. As a team UAB is connecting on 9.9 shots from long range, the 11th most in the country.
The Blazers have been a hard team to defend as they boast the 25th best field goal percentage (46.5 percent) in the country, while forward Katelynn Thomas ranks eighth individually with a 63.9 percent mark of her own. The Birmingham native has netted double figures in six consecutive games.
UAB leads Conference USA in points per game, averaging 82.1 per contest, ranking it 23rd nationally. Helping lead the balanced offensive attack is senior Deanna Kuzmanic who is the only Blazer to finish in double figures every game this season.
Samford (3-5) is coming off a 75-54 win over Presbyterian over Sunday. The Bulldogs are averaging 60.6 points per game behind a 37.3 percent mark from long range, the 38th best in the nation.
Paige Serup leads the tam, averaging 9.0 points per game. The sophomore is shooting 50.0 percent (24-of-48) from the field and is firing 44.7 percent (17-of-38) from beyond the arc.
Wednesday night marks the eighth all time meeting in the Battle for Birmingham with UAB leading the series 5-2. While the Blazers hold the advantage in the series, they are winless on the road against the Bulldogs. Admission to Wednesday night's game is free. Fans not in attendance can catch all of the action live on ESPN+.
