UAB Drops Two on Saturday at the Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The UAB volleyball team fell in its final two matches of the Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational on Saturday, dropping the first match to Michigan State in three sets before falling to Albany in straight sets.
It was a tough match against Michigan State as UAB fell (7-25, 16-25, 25-27) to begin the day. Abby Carlile and Emily Rudolph led the Blazers in kills with nine and six, respectively. Rudolph picked up two blocks in the match while Shelby Holderfield put up 22 assists against the Spartans.
In the second match of the day, the Green and Gold fell to Albany (13-25, 22-25, 22-25). Again it was Carlile who led UAB in kills as she picked up 10 while Alex Kells and Rudolph had six each. Holderfield tallied 29 assists and two kills for the Blazers in the weekend's final match.
UAB (8-6) wrapped up its non-conference season this weekend and now turns its focus to the conference slate. The Blazers will start C-USA play on the road against FIU on Friday, Sept. 21 before playing at FAU on Sunday, Sept. 23.
The home opener comes against Marshall on Friday Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. Following the home opener, the Blazers will play again on Oct. 5 and 7 against UTEP and UTSA, both matches will be at home in Bartow Arena.
Single game tickets are on sale for $5 for adults and $3 for youth and can be purchased at the gate, online at uabsports.com, or by calling the UAB Ticket Office at (205) 975-UAB1.
