BIRMINGHAM- The UAB men's soccer team fell to No. 10 Charlotte by a score of 3-1 Saturday night at BBVA Field.

The No. 10 team in the nation tallied the first goal of the game in the 29^th minute when Teddy Chaouche sent one past senior goalkeeper Julian Mehl for his fourth goal of the season.

Charlotte looked poised to go into the half up a score until the 43^rd minute when Joseph Buete scored his first goal of the season to equalize for the Blazers off a cross from Grayson Dupont. Buete's strike was only the third goal allowed by the 49ers on the season.

UAB had the first chance of the second half when the Blazers were awarded a free kick from just outside the box after Charlotte goalkeeper Elliot Paccino was issued a yellow card. The ensuing free kick from Dupont sailed high and the score remained knotted at 1-1.

In the 64^th minute the 49ers scored the go-ahead goal when Patrick Hogan sent a header into the back of the net off a corner kick. Five minutes later the 49ers would score again to seal the 3-1 victory.

"I thought for spurts of the match we were really good," said head coach Jeff Kinney. "Unfortunately, it's about being the best team for 90 minutes. We continue to give up goals and it is difficult to win when you do that. All we can do is continue to work on that and hopefully get ourselves on the right track."

Charlotte out-shot UAB 16-7 as the Blazers managed only three shots on goal in the game. Mehl recorded eight saves for the Blazers, the most by a single UAB keeper since October of 2017.

The Blazers have a short turn around as they face Georgia Southern Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at BBVA Field.
