BIRMINGHAM- UAB will close out a three-game home stand against No. 16 FIU on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at BBVA Field.
Saturday night's match will feature the second ranked opponent in seven days for the Blazers. UAB fell to No. 10 Charlotte 3-1 last Saturday in Birmingham.
UAB (1-5-1, 0-1-1) will go for the upset and try to avoid a three-game losing streak. The Blazer's scoring has been quiet in the last two matches and they will need to find a way to get the offense going against a high scoring Panthers team.
FIU (6-0-2, 2-0-0) ranks second nationally in goals per game with 3.38. Twelve different Panthers have combined for 27 goals in eight games. Midfielders Alessandro Campoy and Caleb Franke lead all goal scorers on the team with five goals apiece. Franke was most recently named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week after recording a hat trick against Old Dominion. Campoy has also recorded a hat trick on the season, his coming against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 14.
"Coming off two tough losses we are looking forward to another opportunity to get better against a top 25 team," said head coach Jeff Kinney. "We feel like we are close. We are one or two plays from getting the results that we want and need a positive result to spring us back into the top half of the conference."
The last time UAB defeated a ranked opponent was October of 2016 when the Blazers took down No. 15 Kentucky in Birmingham by a score of 2-1.
Men's soccer season tickets are on sale by purchasing the 2019-20 Gold Card for $65.
