MBB Returns Home to Face Rhodes

BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's basketball (4-1) returns home to face off with Rhodes College (3-1) on Saturday at noon in Bartow Arena. Fans can get a $10 ticket at the game when bringing canned goods benefitting the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. Additionally, Family Four Packs are available, allowing fans to purchase four tickets for $40 here.

Monday's contest is set to air on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 with Landrum Roberts and Steve Mitchell on the call.
In addition, David Crane will host Blazer Sportsline every Monday beginning Dec. 19. The show takes place live from Walk-Ons Sports Bistreaux in Hoover and features men's basketball head coach Andy Kennedy and women's basketball head coach Randy Norton. The 11-episode show, airs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Blazer Sportsline can be heard on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 and fans will be encouraged to tweet questions to @UABLearfield. The Blazers defeated South Florida and Georgia during the in Daytona Beach, Fla. to take the Sunshine Slam Beach Bracket crown. Jordan Walker was named the Most Outstanding player of the tournament after scoring 31 points in the finale against Georgia. Ledarrius Brewer and KJ Buffen were also named to the all-tournament team.

KJ Buffen, Tavin Lovan and Jordan Walker each surpassed 1,000 points in their collegiate careers with the Blazers. Buffen, Lovan and Walker are joined by brothers Ty Brewer and Ledarrius Brewer to have scored more than 1,000 points in their college basketball careers. UAB is the only known program in Division I with five 1,000-point scorers.
AK's REVIVAL
Head coach Andy Kennedy often talks about re-establishing the "Bartow Standard" in Birmingham by competing for and winning championships year after year. AK lived up to the standard in 2022, winning his first league tournament championship during his tenure as the Blazers' head coach. A win on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, made Kennedy the first UAB head coach to start both his first and second seasons with at least an 8-2 record through the first 10 games of each of his first two campaigns. Kennedy added to his already impressive resume as he defeated Alabama State, becoming the fastest coach in UAB history to reach 50 wins.
THE BREWER BROTHERS
In the offseason, Andy Kennedy added brothers Ty and Ledarrius Brewer from via the transfer portal. The Brewer brothers provide valuable experience for the Blazers, having played a combined nine years of college basketball. Ledarrius, the older brother, began his career at SEMO before transferring to ETSU for the last two seasons. He averages 14.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game during his career entering 2022-23. Ty Brewer began his collegiate career at Southeastern Louisiana before transferring to ETSU to play with his brother. He averages 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds during his collegiate career.
