UAB Women’s Soccer Opens AAC Championship Against No. 9 Memphis

BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a regular season finale victory to clinch a spot in the AAC Tournament, the UAB women's soccer team opens postseason play against No. 9 Memphis in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. CT in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
The Blazers (6-6-5, 2-3-4 AAC) defeated Temple 4-0 last Thursday to clinch the 8-seed in the AAC Tournament and go up against the top-seeded Tigers who are 15-1-0 and went 9-0-0 in the AAC regular season. Memphis defeated UAB 4-0 in the one match up between the two this season.
UAB will be relying on the team leader in save percentage (.776), total saves (38) and last week's AAC Goalie of the Week Eve Beyer, as well as the team leading goal scorer Jolie St. Louis (4) and team leader in assist (3) – and last week's AAC Rookie of the Week – Avery Berryman.
The back line is anchored by two AAC All-Conference players in Asha Zuniga and Abby Graeser. Zuniga, one of the most decorated players in school history, will be playing in her school-record 83rd match on Tuesday. She is a three-time All-Conference player and was named a Second Team All-AAC selection on Monday. A true freshman defender, Abby Graeser was named to the AAC All-Rookie team and logged the fourth most minutes on the team (1,142).
UAB is 1-1-1 against Memphis all-time when playing at a neutral site. The winner of this first-round match-up will face-off against the winner of Charlotte vs. East Carolina on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. CT.
All AAC Women's Soccer Championship games will be broadcast on ESPN+, with the Championship Final being broadcast on ESPNU on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. CT. Admission is free to the public for all AAC Women's Soccer Championship games.
