CHARLOTTE – UAB men's soccer (4-5-5, 1-3-2 AAC) played Charlotte (8-1-5, 3-1-2 AAC) to a scoreless 0-0 draw on Sunday night on the road.
The Blazers were able to get a result in a crucial conference match against one of the top teams in the league. UAB had not earned a point at Charlotte since the 2012 season.
Sunday's match took a turn in the 18th minute, after Charlotte was lining up its fourth corner kick of the match, a yellow card was issued to the 49ers' forward Brigham Larsen, but after review, it was upgraded to a red card.
Playing with a one-man advantage, the Blazers looked to shift the momentum of the match.
Neither side was able to earn many chances throughout the match until the final 15 minutes. Gustavo Barbosa fired a shot on frame that challenged the Charlotte keeper in the 78th minute, but he was able to hang on for the save.
In the 84th minute, Charlotte nearly found the back of the net, but Jonathan Munteanu turned aside Orthodoxos Orthodoxou's shot to keep the match tied.
Tony Kim was able to get a shot on frame in the 86th minute, but it was also saved by the Charlotte keeper.
The Blazers held off the 49ers in the final moments to preserve the scoreless draw.
