Men's Basketball Concludes Non-Conference Play Against Alcorn State

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball hosts Alcorn State on Sunday in the Blazers' final non-conference game of the season. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
Promotions for Sunday's game against Alcorn State will include: a closet clean out (fans will have the chance to select up to two promo items of their choice), a Starry voucher giveaway (while supplies last), and an ugly sweater contest at halftime. The winner of the ugly sweater contest will receive a $100 Visa gift card, second place will receive a $50 Visa gift card, and third place will receive a $25 Visa gift card.

SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series over the Braves, 9-0. The Blazers hung on for an 80-77 win over Alcorn last season. Efrem "Butta" Johnson hit a go-ahead three with 27 seconds remaining to give UAB the win.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB ran away from Alabama A&M for a 96-67 win over the Bulldogs. Christian Coleman scored a career high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win.
CRASH THE BOARDS
This season, UAB is again among the top rebounding teams in the nation, ranking 17th in the country in rebounds per contest with 41.9. UAB is especially strong on the offensive glass with 15.3 offensive boards per game, which is tied for ninth in the nation. Yaxel Lendeborg led the team in rebounding last season with 10.6 per game. He has grabbed 15 or more rebounds in 12 games as a Blazer, including a 21-rebound game vs. Florida Atlantic which ranks second in program history.
SMOOTH LIKE "BUTTA"
One of the few homegrown players on the UAB roster that did not transfer in from another school, Efrem "Butta" Johnson had a breakout year in 2023-24. Johnson upped his scoring average from 3.5 points per game during his freshman season to 11.2 as a sophomore while taking a much larger role. He hit a team-high 56 three-point field goals while shooting at a .359 clip in 2023-24. After a slow start to the season, Johnson had a breakout game against High Point where he matched his career high of 21 points and hit five three-pointers. Johnson is shooting 50 percent from three over the last three games.
