Blazers Fall in First AAC Series of the Year

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team dropped the final game of the series against Wichita State. The loss comes after splitting the first two games with the Shockers.

UAB got on the scoreboard first for the first time in the series, in the 1st inning. Logan Braunschweig was able to score Gavin Lewis Jr. on a groundout to shortstop. The run was unearned because of a throwing error on a failed pick-off.

The Wichita State Shockers would score the next nine runs. UAB only hit the ball four times all day as the starter for Wichita State struck out nine.

The shockers started off the scoring in the 2nd inning, scoring on a fielding error by UAB. Both teams had one error on the day. Three more runs would score in the 4th and 5th innings. Livingston hit a solo homer and Gustafson hit a double off of the 1st basemen scoring two runs. After the 5th inning Wichita State led by a score of 4-1.

Wichita State out hit UAB 13-4, with the Blazers getting two of those hits in innings seven and nine. The Shockers continued to hit the ball with four runs on four hits in the 7th inning. The scoring finally stopped in the 9th inning with an RBI walk for Birge. The final score was UAB 1, Wichita State 9

Top Performers (Week)
Nick Hollifield played in four games this week hitting .454 (5-11) with six RBIs and three runs scored. Hollifield hit a go-ahead two run home run in game one vs Wichita State, which helped the UAB win 5-3.

Blayze Berry got the win in game one against Wichita State. He pitched 7.0 innings with a career high of 12 strikeouts and did not allow any walks.

Next Game
UAB is back home Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Alabama A&M.
