Women’s Basketball Set to Face Rice

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball travels to Rice on Tuesday, February 25. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Tuesday's contest 15-12 overall and 6-9 in conference play, while the Owls are 13-14 on the season and 6-9 in league play. The game marks the 26th time the two teams have faced each other and the second time this season. UAB earned a 63-56 win in overtime against Rice at Bartow Arena on January 22. Rice leads the all-time series 13-12.
The Owls are coming off a 57-55 loss against UTSA on Saturday, while UAB fell 72-68 in overtime versus Tulsa on Saturday.
Maddie Walsh led the Blazers against Tulsa with 20 points, while Eleecia Carter registered 13 points. Jade Weathersby recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
UAB had a 16-point lead after the first quarter and a 17-point lead at halftime. Walsh made a three to open the third to give the Blazers its biggest lead at 20 (36-16). The Golden Hurricanes then went on a 15-3 run to get within eight points of the Blazers at 39-31.
Carter made a 3-pointer with 24 seconds left in the fourth to give UAB back the lead, but Tulsa made a layup with nine seconds left to tie the game 60-60 and sent the game into overtime.
Walsh leads the Blazers with 12.6 points per game while Weathersby is following behind with 10.9 points. Sara Bershers is averaging 9.2 points while Tracey Bershers is recording 6.2 points per game. Molly Moffitt is registering 5.9 points and Carter is averaging 5.2 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 9.2 per game.
Offensively, Rice is led by Malia Fisher (13.3 ppg) and Dominique Ennis (12.7 ppg).
