UAB Falls in Walk-Off Fashion Second Straight Game

CHARLOTTE - UAB Baseball (23-27, 7-16) dropped its second straight game in walk-off fashion as Charlotte (30-20, 14-9) came back to beat the Blazers by a final of 6-5. The Green and Gold led 5-3 going into the 9th inning.
Wesley Helms got the Blazers started in the top of the 3rd inning. With two on and nobody out, he grounded the first pitch he saw up the middle to score Logan Braunschweig and Gavin Lewis Jr. to put the Blazers up 2-0.
Charlotte got on the board in the bottom of the 5th. With two out and two strikes, Juan Rivera grounded out to second to score Blake Martin. The next pitch, Logan Poteet doubled to right center to tie the game at two.
The score would hold until the bottom of the 7th when Poteet hit a solo home run to right field on an 0-2 pitch to put Charlotte ahead 3-2.
The Blazer 8th inning looked identical to the one on Friday night. With a full count and two on, Camden Hayslip hit a 3-run home run to straight away center field to put the Blazers back in front 5-3.
The 49ers mounted a rally in the bottom of the 9th. The inning started with a strikeout, but Blake Martin reached first on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Thad Ector doubled to score Martin and made it a one run game. With two outs and two on, Connor Maryniak grounded a ball up the third base line that hit the base and trickled into left field which scored Ector to tie the game. Two pitches later, Dawson Bryce laced a ball into left field to score Poteet and the 49ers walked it off for the second day in a row.
Cole Cheatham earned the start for the Blazers going 5.1 innings and striking out four and allowing two runs.
Andrew Kribbs tossed seven innings for Charlotte, striking out four and allowing one earned run.
UAB and Charlotte face off for game three on Sunday. First pitch from Hayes Stadium is slated for 1 pm eastern on ESPN+.
