UAB Drops Game One at Memphis

MEMPHIS - Colin Daniel's second consecutive complete game was not enough as UAB (23-23, 7-12) dropped the Friday night matchup against Memphis (17-28, 5-14) by a score of 2-0. The Blazers outhit the Tigers 7-5, but the Green and Gold left nine on base in the game.

The Tigers got the perfect start in the 1st inning. On the first pitch of the game, Cade Greer hit an opposite field home run and put Memphis up 1-0.

Neither team would score again until the bottom of the 6th. Michael Politte of Memphis doubled to right to score Justin Fogel to add to the Tigers' lead.

It was a pitchers' duel all night between Daniel and the Tigers' pitching staff. Seth Garner gave Memphis six innings of shutout baseball, allowed five hits and struck out six. Will Howell pitched two innings, while Davis Oswalt picked up his second save of the season by pitching a scoreless 9th inning and the Tigers hung on for the 2-0 win.

Colin Daniel was the only Blazer pitcher on a Friday night for the second week in a row. In the loss, Daniel had exactly 100 pitches, threw 70 strikes, seven strikeouts to one walk and dropped his season ERA to 3.52.

NOTES

Todd Clay picked up exactly two hits for the 10th time this season. He now has a team-high 16 multi-hit games in 2025.
Nick Hollifield picked up his 14th multi-hit game of the year. It was also his first career game with two doubles.
Tyler Waugh extended his season-long on-base streak to 15 games.

The Blazers and Tigers square off for game two on Saturday. First pitch from FedEx Park will be at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
