Blazers Travel to Nashville for Music City Invite

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field makes the short trip up Interstate 65 this weekend as the Blazers are set to compete in the Music City Invite in Nashville, hosted by Vanderbilt. Friday's action will begin at 10 a.m. while Saturday's events will start at 9:30 a.m.
THE FIELD
Around 50 teams will be participating this weekend along with the Blazers as this meet promises to be the most challenging of the season thus far.
THIS TIME LAST YEAR
The Blazer pole vaulters started the action for the Green and Gold on Friday. Noelle Hambrick placed 4th overall with a mark of 3.72m (12' 2 ½"), setting her PR. Victoria Freeland also set her PR with a mark of 3.57m (11' 8 ½").
Three Blazers set their PR time in the 1 Mile race. Lidia Longo once again led the Blazers in the race as she finished fourth in Heat 3. With a time of 4:54.02, she still has the fourth best indoor 1 Mile time in school history. Sangie Lincoln-Velez also broke the five-minute mark coming in at 4:58.83. Lia Castillo finished at 5:00.81.
Longo's second PR of the weekend came in the 3000m where she finished at 9:55.59. Kenlie Nelson also set her PR in the event coming in at 10:09.45.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The day was highlighted by Victory George's first place finish in the Long Jump. The senior notched her season-best jump coming in at 5.82m. Additionally, George qualified for the finals in the 60m dash where she finished in 7.71 seconds after she ran the 60m prelims in 7.70 seconds.
Leticia Quingostas had a strong finish in the 400m dash. The senior finished in 56.52 seconds and placed third overall in the event and second in Heat 2.
Lia Castillo secured a top-5 finish in the 800m race. Castillo finished fourth in Heat 1 and fifth overall in the race with a time of 2:14.83.
Kelly Hughes (600m) and Fiona Eastman (Pole Vault) each entered the top 10 in school history in their respective events.
Hughes kicked off the day for the Blazers in the 600m where she finished in 1:35.87 and placed fourth overall in the event. Hughes' time currently ranks 3rd-best in school history.
Hughes was joined by fellow freshman Katelyn Valtos who recorded her personal best in the race. Valtos finished in 1:38.64 which was good for 8th-best on the day.
Eastman eclipsed her personal best for the third consecutive meet on Saturday as she took home the crown in the event. Eastman's mark of 3.77m ranks 4th-best in school history.
Eastman was joined by fellow Blazers Noelle Hambrick and Trinity Fellows in the top-6 of the event. Hambrick finished fourth with a mark of 3.67m and Fellows placed sixth with a mark of 3.47m.
Jordyn Dortch was tied for eighth in the 60m Prelims. Dortch ran a season-best 7.70 and ran a 7.74 in the run-off. Dortch finished her day by claiming the 4th-best Indoor 200m time in school history. Dortch completed the 200m dash in 24.69 which is her season-best.
