UAB Men's Soccer Hosts Queens on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's soccer hosts Queens University on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. CT. The Blazers begin the 2022 season with a pair of home games at PNC Field as a part of the UAB Soccer for the Cure Classic. Sunday's game will stream live on ESPN+.
SERIES HISTORY
The two programs have never met. Queens University is beginning its first season as an NCAA Division I program as a member of the ASUN Conference. The Royals were formerly an NCAA Division II program.
OFFICIALLY AAC
UAB has officially joined the American Athletic Conference as an affiliate member for men's soccer for the 2022 season.
COMMON OPPONENTS
The sole common opponent for the Blazers and the Royals is the Memphis Tigers. Queens fell 5-0 to Memphis on Friday afternoon in the first game of the weekend. The Blazers will face off with the Tigers in November.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
The Blazers picked up a season-opening win over College of Charleston on Friday night as a part of the UAB Soccer for a Cure Classic. The 2-0 victory was highlighted by goals from veterans Brooks Rice and Nathaniel St. Louis. Jack Hudson, in his first game at UAB, put up a shutout with a pair of saves.
SCOUTING THE ROYALS
The Royals fell in their first Division I contest on Friday. They were not able to get on the board but put produced some dangerous chances with three shots on goal. Memphis was able to net five goals on the afternoon.
RETURNING PRODUCTION
The Blazers return three of their top four goal scorers from the 2021 campaign in Nathaniel St. Louis, Brooks Rice and Curtis DeLeon. Also returning is Teodor Thorvaldsen who led the team with four assists.
WE'RE ALL FROM SOMEWHERE
UAB men's soccer has student-athletes from six states and eight different countries (Norway, Canada, Germany, Spain, Israel, Hungary, Austria). Alabama is the most well-represented state with nine Blazers and Norway is the most well-represented country outside of the U.S. with three players (Thorvaldsen, Love Groth, Overland).

After going winless at PNC Field in the 2021 fall season, the Blazers opened the season with a 2-0 win at home. Each of UAB's last three home victories have been shutouts.
