Coleman Scores 25 to Lead UAB Past Alabama A&M

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball (6-6) downed Alabama A&M (4-7) on Wednesday night by a score of 96-67. Christian Coleman had a double-double with a career high 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Blazers.

UAB jumped out to a big lead in the first half thanks to the offensive glass. Coleman and the Blazers attacked the boards on the offensive end, grabbing 14 offensive boards in the first half and scoring 17 second chance points.

With the game tied at 13, UAB went on a 16-3 run to 29-16 lead over the next four minutes. Coleman was active early, scoring 16 of his 25 points in the first half.

Tony Toney helped the Blazers build their lead to 29 by halftime with three of UAB's six steals. The Bulldogs turned over the ball 12 times in the first half and UAB turned that into 21 points.

UAB closed the half on a 12-3 run that was capped off by a three from Efrem "Butta" Johnson with the clock running down to lead 57-28 at the break.

In the second half, Alabama A&M cut the lead to 24 points, but the Blazers were able to prevent a comeback. Ja'Borri McGhee took over late in the second half, scoring 12 of his 15 points to help the Blazers preserve their lead.

UAB surpassed the 90-point mark for the fifth time this season en route to a 96-67 victory.

NOTES

Christian Coleman scored a career high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his fourth career double-double.
Efrem "Butta" Johnson scored 15 points while shooting 4-for-5 from three.
Ja'Borri McGhee scored 15 points and had four steals.
Tony Toney scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three steals.
The Blazers grabbed a season-high 23 offensive boards, however they also allowed the Bulldogs to grab 21 offensive rebounds of their own.
