UAB Men's Basketball Hosts Tulsa on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball (7-7, 0-1 AAC) will host Tulsa (6-8, 0-1 AAC) on Saturday in the Blazers' conference home opener. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
Promotions for tomorrow's game will include a friendship bracelet making station (while supplies last), a 2 for $25 New Year ticket deal, and Accepted Students Day.
Students that have been accepted to UAB (incoming students only) can receive a free ticket to the game by showing a valid ID at the UAB Ticket Office on gameday. Additional tickets for family and friends can also be purchased for just $10 each.

Saturday's game will air on ESPNU with Joel Godett (pxp) and Mark Adams (analyst) on the call.

SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series over Tulsa 10-7. The two programs met for the first time in 10 years last season after the Blazers' move to the American Conference. UAB won 70-63 over the Golden Hurricane in February and Yaxel Lendeborg had 17 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB fell to North Texas by a score of 78-75 on Tuesday after Atin Wright hit a three at the buzzer. The Blazers led by as many as 18 points, including a 17-point advantage at halftime.
JUCO DAWGS
UAB has embraced the JUCO ranks during Andy Kennedy's time in Birmingham and the 2024-25 roster features seven players that have played at a Junior College including Christian Coleman (South Plains), Greg Gordon (Dyersburg State), Marquis Hargrove (Arizona Western), Ja'Borri McGhee (Garden City/South Plains), Yaxel Lendeborg (Arizona Western), and Alejandro Vasquez (Salt Lake). JUCO players accounted for 41.7% of the Blazers' scoring last season and 48.4% of their rebounding. So far this season, JUCO players have accounted for 69.8% of the Blazers' scoring and 62.1% of their rebounding.
GET TO THE LINE
The Blazers were one of the best teams in the country at getting to the charity stripe in 2023-24, finishing eighth in the country in free throws made per game at 17.8. This year, the Blazers are again getting to the free throw line at a high rate. UAB is tied for 63rd in the nation with 16.2 free throws made per game and 59th in the country at 75.9 percent from the charity stripe.
CRASH THE BOARDS
This season, UAB is again among the top rebounding teams in the nation, ranking 21st in the country in rebounds per contest with 41.3. UAB is especially strong on the offensive glass with 15.0 offensive boards per game, which is 11th in the nation. Yaxel Lendeborg led the team in rebounding last season with 10.6 per game. He has grabbed 15 or more rebounds in 12 games as a Blazer, including a 21-rebound game vs. Florida Atlantic which ranks second in program history.
