UAB Blanks Alabama State in Final Midweek Home Game

BIRMINGHAM - The run rule was in effect on Tuesday night at Young Memorial Field as UAB (23-22) shut out Alabama State (23-23) by a score of 10-0. The Blazers outhit the Hornets 9-3. The Green and Gold took advantage of the free opportunities that were given as they drew 13 walks.
It only took one batter for UAB to jump out front as Logan Braunschweig hit one out to straight away center for his second leadoff home run of the season.
The Blazers tallied another run in the bottom of the 2nd when Todd Clay picked up an RBI groundout to score Gavin Lewis Jr. to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 4th, Clay reached on an infield single which scored Wesley Helms and put UAB up 3-0.
The Green and Gold put up another single run in the 5th when Alex Cheeseman singled to score Andrew Hunt and added to the Blazer advantage.
In the bottom of the 6th, Andrew Hunt put up another run on an RBI groundout which scored Helms and gave UAB a 5-0 lead.
The Blazers' big inning finally came in the bottom of the 8th. Four straight free passes opened the inning as the Blazers went up 6-0. Still with nobody out, Tyler Harrington singled to right to bring home Todd Clay and Camden Hayslip to make it 8-0. Two batters later, Mayes White singled to score Hunt. As the Blazers still had no outs, Matthew Roncalli came to bat with the bases loaded. Roncalli delivered a sac fly to center to score Harrington for his first RBI as a Blazer and sent the Green and Gold home with a 10-0 win.
Redshirt junior Tyler Haines got the start for the Blazers and picked up his first career win. Haines tossed three innings, allowed just one hit, and faced just 10 batters. Thomas Ballard, Justin Hicks, and CJ Ellis all contributed to the shutout out of the bullpen.

- Wesley Helms recorded his 10th multi-hit game of the season.
- Andrew Hunt has picked up back-to-back multi-hit games. It was also the second straight game Hunt recorded multiple RBI.
- Todd Clay tallied his team-leading 14th multi-RBI game of the season.
- Tyler Harrington recorded his third multi-RBI game.
